When I moved Jim Bates Advertising to San Diego in 1989, I needed to find a photographer immediately to handle the needs of a new client. After reviewing a handful of portfolios, one rose to the top of heap. The work depicted the exceptional level of technical expertise I needed, and a fresh perspective on creativity I wanted. That's how I met Glenn Steiner.
For ten years we were a team, even after he moved to San Francisco. I designed advertising solutions for a client who manufactured superior, but rather ordinary looking, black two-way radio equipment, and Steiner captured in his lens the appearance of their extraordinary quality. As a result, within a year, the product climbed from third place to first in market share and buyers were clambering for what became the "Cadillac" of radios.
Because of Steiner's knack of solving almost impossible lighting problems in the studio and on location, intuitive approach to building props, his ability to select the right film format for each shot up to and including 8 x 10, an unerring eye for bracketing and relentless goal for quality he became indispensable to me and our client.
Never content to insist his tried and true photographic solutions fit every circumstance, Steiner constantly strives to use the latest technology, learning and applying new techniques and equipment, yet while he works, it's his creativity and ability to enhance the art directors vision of the shot that elevates him above his peers. His talent for calmly getting the shot under extreme pressures of deadlines is a lesson in patience all photographers should learn. Hire Glenn Steiner and get a consummate professional photographer.
Sincerely,
Jim Bates

I have known and worked with Glenn Steiner since the early 1990s when we both had studios in San Diego, California. From 1990 through when I left California in 1998, Glenn and I worked on numerous annual reports, brochures, posters and commercial advertising projects together, always with great results and more than satisfied reactions from the clients we served.
Glenn's combination of old-school training, a refined eye for composition and lighting, highly-proficient technical know-how, and the business acumen to "do whatever it takes to get the shot right" has made him a consistent professional throughout the years and a joy to work with.
I particularly find his high tech product and business environment shots to be wonderfully composed and artfully lit.
If his new studio in San Francisco is anything like the space in San Diego, you will find an efficient use of space (and a great selection of handpainted backdrops from his wife, Rose Wulff), a no-frills working environment (which allows for great budget management on projects), takeout menus from the best local restaurants, a wonderful library of music and a well-tuned set of conga drums.
I hope you enjoy working with Glenn as much as I have. If only I still lived on the west coast, Glenn would be collaborating with me much more often.
Regards,
Robert Mott

Dear Glenn,
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for a job well done.
I am enclosing samples of the Zitel Ads for your portfolio. They look great!
Some were a little concerned that the concept could have come out looking ordinary, but I was configent you could pull it off and add the extra flair the campaign needed. And, as usual, you've come through for me.
The client is very pleased with the end product and was also impressed gby your overall professionalism. Everything went very smoothly and we all actually enjoyed the shoot.
Thanks again,
Art Wager, Senior Art Director

Dear Glenn,
A short note to say that everyone here at Design Office and most importantly, or client, Amdahl Corporation, was more than pleased with the results of your work on behalf of the two major full color brochures we produced for the Storage Processors Division.
Your devotion to obtaining aesthetic superiority while maintaining schedules and budgets is a professional combination you have shown in the past and was present once again on this most recent project.
Let's do it again.
Sincerely,
Bruce Kortebein, Principle
